Hi & Welcome

I am Sarah Martin and I am passionate about friendship, mentorship, and cultivating community.  Welcome to my blog! As we journey along over these days, months, and years, I hope that you will first be encouraged to grow in relationship with Jesus.  Our relationship with Him is the most important one we will ever have. Secondly, I hope you are inspired to reach out and dig deep in relationships with others. We are made to live in the fellowship of the saints.

What is this Blog About?

It's about Friendship:

I’ve been asking myself: What does it mean to be a friend? How do you find a good friend? How do you be a good friend? How do you ask good questions? How can you serve each other well through the best of times and the worst of times? I wrestle with what it means to be a good friend as a Christian. How can we love deeply, but not make our friends idols? My prayer is that Jesus himself would satisfy us in every way relationally.

It’s about Mentorship:

I’ve been asking myself: What is a mentor? How do you find one? In every season of life are you supposed to be mentoring someone? What do you actually do with a mentor? Beyond the college years is when I needed a mentor the most and thankfully I found one. The value of my mentor is beyond description. Many of us need an older, wiser person in our life to encourage us, pray for us and remind us of the truth. My hope and prayer is that more and more people find these special kinds of relationships.

It's about Cultivating Community:

I’ve been asking myself: What does real community look like? Where do you find real community? How do you cultivate community? How can you serve in your community? How do we host, fellowship and build relationships where the Lord has planted us in our local church, jobs, neighborhoods, etc. Community is evolving and we need the Lord to lead us in the way we should go. My prayer is that God would build his church and that as Christians our love for one another would shine for the glory of God.

It’s about Real Life:

I’ve been asking myself: How do we live out these things?  What do we do when friendships change due to offense, relocation, or lack of shared experiences? What does it look like when we shift from being the mentee to the mentor? How do you know when your community is at max capacity or when it’s time to add new friends to the mix? So many things can happen every day that threaten our peace, our joy and our security.  My prayer is that when everything that can be shaken IS shaken, we would stand firm in the knowledge of God’s love for us.

I am beyond blessed by the Godly women and men whose spiritual shoulders I stand on, especially my parents, Gabe & Shirley Salazar. After mom died in 2017, I felt a burden to pass on what my mom has taught me about loving God and loving people.  That is the heart behind so much of my writing for One Another; an opportunity to pass on a part of her incredible legacy as well as what I’ve learned from so many others..

I’m grateful that you are taking the time to read my stories here at One Another. Subscribe below for monthly blog post alerts and follow along on Instagram for what’s going on in the day-to-day.
